It is evident that the figure of the jaguar evoked, for the earliest inhabitants of the continent, a force and a special meaning. Its ability to hunt on land, in the trees, and in the water established it as Lord and Master of the Animals and as a spiritual protector, which granted it the mythical role of embodying the forces of fertility.
