📌 Art Theory + Practice: Understanding and Making

This Lab invites you to explore the rich history of art movements and theories — and then bring those ideas to life through simple, hands-on exercises.

Each session begins with a short reading or story that introduces an art movement or concept (for example: Impressionism, Surrealism, Minimalism). Together, we’ll discuss the meaning, context, and influence of the ideas — not as distant history, but as living concepts that still inspire artists today.

From there, we shift into practice: a short creative experiment where we translate theory into something tangible. These exercises are intentionally simple and open-ended — the goal is not to create a finished artwork, but to deepen our understanding of how ideas move from history → concept → form.

✨ What You’ll Experience

  • Learn the history and theory of major art movements.

  • Engage in group discussion and reflection.

  • Experiment with short, practical exercises that bring theory into form.

  • Discover how theory and history can enrich your own way of seeing and making.

🎯 Purpose of the Lab

This is not a studio art class. It’s a learning lab that adds a new layer of understanding to art theory and history. By combining reading, discussion, and practice, you’ll discover how ideas that shaped the art world can also shape your way of thinking, seeing, and creating.
