Live Painting: Art in the Moment
Live painting is a form of visual performance art where an artist creates a piece in real-time, often in a public setting such as a music concert, wedding reception, or special event. Sometimes accompanied by live music or a DJ, the process can be planned or entirely improvisational, capturing the energy of the moment in a way that traditional studio work cannot. This dynamic approach to art allows for spontaneity and interaction, creating a unique and immersive experience for both the artist and the audience.
On April 24, 2025, at the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston’s “A Night in the City of Light Gala,” I created a live Calligraffiti painting celebrating French culture and global connection. Inspired by the Gothic script of Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, especially its blue lunettes symbolizing our shared sky, my piece focused on the word “révolution” and its ever-evolving concept of personal and collective change, alongside the resilient French rooster as a tribute.
This piece is called The Scarab. It was created during an event at the Aston Martin dealership in Houston, inspired by the brand’s logo, which in turn is based on the Egyptian winged symbol, representing transformation and freedom. The Scarab is painted in Aston Martin’s signature color. The event, titled Collector and Collector, took place on November 14, 2024, and was organized by Uplyft Studios.
This painting is called The Path of Orion. It is a calligraffiti piece created during my artist talk at Sabine Studios in 2024. The artwork took approximately 45 minutes to complete and was raffled live among the attendees. It was a lot of fun!
