Color, Conversation & Canvas: My Time at the 2024 Uplyft Festival

In 2024, I was invited to join the Uplyft Festival in Houston as a visual artist—an event curated by Kareem Marshall that brought together bold voices in film, fashion, and contemporary art. Held inside the historic Esperson Building, the atmosphere was intense, stylish, and full of creative energy.

During the festival, I presented my piece “Axis”, a calligraffiti work that’s part of my ongoing Chiribiquete series. It weaves abstract lettering with visual elements inspired by the sacred geography and symbols of the Colombian Amazon. It’s a piece about origin, connection, and movement—rooted in myth but speaking in a modern visual language.

I also had the chance to be interviewed by Candice Pink, who brought a sharp and thoughtful lens to the conversation. We discussed the story behind “Axis”, how I approach gesture and meaning in my work, and the way this series continues to evolve. It was a high-energy moment—more like a snapshot than a long talk—but it captured something real.

What made the experience even more powerful was the audience. People weren’t just watching—they were responding. The questions, the interpretations, the unexpected references… it all reminded me why I keep creating.

Big thanks to Kareem for opening this space, and to Candice for the conversation.
